In Search of Wild Orchid (Group Exhibition)

Curated by Amin Pouramin, Nian Art Gallery, Tehran, Iran | May – June 2024

"I have gone to the autumn plains searching for the wild orchid, but what I desire are deep roots, not the blossom."

Featured Works

Three sculptures from the House on Fire series and a collage were featured in this installation.

Little Hell
Little Hell II

Little Hell I & II, 2024, epoxy resin 24 x 18 x 19 cm & 10 x 21 x 11 cm

Built by layering tear-shaped resin molds, these sculptures capture a fixed moment of a dancing fire. Outside, a fire gathers us to sing, speak, and share memories; inside the gallery, the fire is simulated. Little Hell acknowledges its own static state, stating: "I am fixed for the show, representing what I am not. I fake warmth so you can touch me, offering a moment of stillness to reflect on your own relationship with the real deal." It acts as a catalyst, inviting viewers to converse and bridge the distance between the gallery space and lived experience.

Heart on Fire
Exhibition view with the artist and audience. In Search of the Wild Orchid, 2024, Nian Art Gallery, Tehran, Iran.

Heart on Fire, 2024, epoxy resin (hanged on wall), 34 x 29 x 16 cm

Positioned directly behind the centerpiece fire, this sculpture is a literal and bold externalization of the heart. For me, intense emotions cannot be held quietly; a love that burns must be let out. This piece represents the necessity of channeling tense, overwhelming feelings into the language of art, refusing silence in favor of a bold, burning expression.

Shady Horizon

Shady Horizon, 2024, mixed media on collaged cardboard 30 x 30 cm

This piece depicts a layered landscape where both the land and the sky are consumed by fire. Small blazes spread across the pink mountains, while the blue sky is struck by meteors or missiles. The narrow light on the horizon hovers ambiguously between the dawn of a new day or the flash of an explosion. Formally, the work was driven by improvisation, freely cutting waves out of colored cardboard and responding to the compositions naturally, working with a zero-waste approach where every leftover piece found its place.
